Az észak-angliai Farne-szigetek ad otthont az egyik legnagyobb vadon élő állat populációnak a szigetországban. Csak a National Trust természetvédelmi szervezet őrei laknak a 15 szigetből álló csoporton. A brit természetvédelmi szervezet szerint 23 tengeri madár faj lakja a Farne-szigeteket. Minden ötödik évben végeznek népszámlálást, és idén mintegy 40 000 fészkelő párt regisztráltak. Ez 8 százalékos embelkedés 2008-hoz képest. Legnagyobb számban sarki madarak fészkelnek, de található itt dankasirály, kormorán, ásólud. Jelentős szürke fóka állomány is lakik a szigeteken, 6000 körüli darabszámban, ők ősszel hozzák világra kölykeiket.
